What Do You Want? (An exercise)

It's a big question and many people will say they don't know. The answer can seem just out of reach.

Many of us have become experts at suppressing or ignoring our desires. It can be so easy to dismiss them.

Many of us create goals and live our lives based on someone else's idea of what we should do.

And if this is you, don't worry - I've got you.

This short assignment is designed to help you tune in and connect with the answer.

I want you to find a notebook, journal, or piece of paper.

Set a timer for five or ten minutes.

And answer the following prompt:

"Wouldn't it be nice if...."

You can free write, or jot down bullets or points.

You are essentially doing a thought download, which is an unedited emptying out of your mind.

Whatever comes to your mind, write it out. Let your imagination run wild and free.

When you are done, you will see a list of what you are craving. These are your desires.

Notice any emotion that is coming up for you. Guilt, excitement, doubt, fear.

Notice if you feel the urge to brush off your desires.

Read it over. Resist the urge to judge.

Bring this list to our next session. Keep this list safe - you're going to need it for next week's exercise :)
